PAUL VICKERS AND THE LEG
"TROPICAL FAVOURITES"
“Paul Vickers, frontman and songwriter with Scottish wonk rockers Dawn of the Replicants, was asked to collaborate with Steve Albini approved alt-popists The Leg on the track 'Wild Geese' to celebrate the centenary of the Edinburgh Collage of Art. Ed at SL Records loved the track, and immediately signed the band up to record an album together.
This new super group premièred their musical adventure over the summer of 2007 at SL Records 10th anniversary celebration gigs, The Edinburgh Fringe Festival and on Huw Stephens BBC Radio One show.
But now they’re ready to swing their anchor a little further….
Out in the tropics on the blue shanghai and balti spice train Paul Vickers and The Leg hatched their musical holiday while putting away spider cakes at malt rocks tangerine city.
They soon constructed a set of their own; ‘Tropical Favourites’ and began performing them at Blue Mandy’s on the intersection of Sour Larry’s shake and bite. Their smoking boom train was like honey rag to a bull and soon they developed a stockpile of sure-fire shanties. These sing alongs became their début tour de force making it a pure and passionate richly sourced mini galacticus.
If you need a quick fix ‘The Ballad of Bess Houdini’, ‘Tears for Smokey’ or ‘Chime Chime Cherry’ are for you. If you want slow burners try ‘Paperboat’ or if you fancy a trip to the valley of absurdity, why not sip some ‘Powerful Soup’. ‘Tropical Favourites’ is an album to wallow in but it’s also full of neat little power tickles.
Its time to poke your head through the door and wander in - Paul Vickers and The Leg are waiting to meet you. Remember the menu is rammed with sonic invention and a sharp command of rhythm and melody.
